Wishing you all a very happy, peaceful holiday....
Hello all,
I'm getting over the pneumonia and feeling more normal.
For the Hook family it's Christmas time. I can't manage anything that comes close to Rocky's universal greeting which I think has been honed over a number of years but whatever you happen to be doing over the next week I hope it's a happy time for you.

Some good news: I now have a working BlackBerry!
Of course one of the first things I did was to put the Party App on it
Initially I couldn't pull down the data from Domino. My BlackBerry is a standalone and not currently tied to a BES server so I had a hunch that the device needed some additional configuration. To confirm I connected RIM development tool (JDE) to my BlackBerry and started debugging. This is the bit I love about the JDE: debugging a running application on a real device. OK so it's shouldn't be necessary and strictly speaking it isn't necessary but it's great to have the option. When the app tried to open a http connection the call returned a java.io exception "Couldn't open a tunnel". This led me via Google to an entry on www.blackberryforums.com which talks about APN settings. With a bit more digging I found the right settings for my carrier and tried again. This time everything worked perfectly
So very early on in the new year I think I'll make it available to download with an extra little help page.
The second Lotusphere project which I've been keeping reasonably close to my chest is nearly ready to talk about. I know I said I'd talk about it this week but that was before getting ill. I've had to slow down but I haven't stopped so by the time we all get back from the holiday I should having something nice to talk about ![]()
I'm off to do fatherly duties (and last minute shopping!) so take care and see you on the other side.
Jason

Thanks, Jason, that's great news. I recently got a Pearl, but I'm not connected to a BES server either. I was wondering if I'd be able to use and of the Sphere Blackberry apps. Thanks for doing that research, I'll definitely be following in your footsteps to setup my own device's connection.
Congrats on getting a Pearl, I've had a play with one it's very nice
On the APN settings front if you are on O2 (which I chose for it's 'unlimited' data tarriff) here are the settings I found that actually work with a caveat: After Christmas I'm going to call O2 and make sure they are the official ones and also get the correct ones for the US. Anyway here they are:
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
user: mobileweb
pwd: password
I think I got the details from this page which also contains details for other carriers: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
