New books..

It's been a very busy and successful week for me, I'll talk about why as soon as I can (I can't say anymore right now even though I really want to )

I've started work on another openCOD project and formed a little story reading co-operative with Francie (I think Alan Bell will be the beneficiary in time).

Whilst in my local bookshop a couple of books caught my eye and I bought them:

The Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra I'm not sure why I found it interesting since it's a spiritual book  you know "Why am I here?", "What's life all about?" but I did and I'm not going to argue and maybe it'll make sense it the end...

I also bought the New Scientist's "Why don't penguins feet freeze?"  (the answer is fascinating btw) which is a sequel to "Does anything eat wasps?" easy to work out why I bought this one. A collection of questions by people who have taken a look at life from a slightly different direction.  Better yet answers too!   This kind of book becomes invaluable when your children enter their "Daddy, why......" phase.  Answering "well, because.." is such a cop out...  Now I have to find a way of priming them with the right questions

Finally I bought Carol Vorderman's "101 ways to a more agile mind".  WH Smith have a buy one get one half price thing going on at the moment and this book had some fun exercises that I wanted to try.  I think Carol's pretty clever and I'm hoping to learn a thing or two from the book.  I wish she would stop doing the adverts for loan companies though, and in particular the ones that want to secure the loan against your home.  That's evil.  My Dad told me never ever secure a loan against your home...

Tonight I'm out doing some Police work for the first time since Lotusphere and I now learn that my little town is currently receiving "fire brigade "policing.  This simply means that bobbies come from the next large town to put the fire out (report a burglary, stop a fight) and then go back to their regular beat. For lot's of reasons this is a bad thing.....

Highlight of the week: my little two year old coming up to me and saying "Daddy you're my farder, are you my farder?".  You had to have been there his voice is so cute.  Little things please little minds (mine mostly)   Now every time he refers to me it's "Farder....".

Anyway time to go, hope you have (or have had) a great weekend.  More news early next week.

I'm also fairly new/somewhat uncomfortable with that level of spirituality but just finished a similar book that is changing some of my beliefs. So let me know what you think about the Deepak Chopra book please..... and until then, I'll be reading "Little Red Riding Hood"
