Sunday

~Not sure if there was a full moon out last night but we had a very busy night rushing from one end of the ground to another from one urgent call to the next.  Rain is sometimes referred to as the "best policeman" and despite coming out in droves last night it did nothing to stop people fighting, smashing property and/or harming themselves.  Almost every call was alcohol related.

We were invited to a farewell party today (Sunday), friends of friends are leaving the UK to go to live in New England.  Michelle is returning home and John is leaving the UK to live with his wife and new son.

John cooked the most fantastic curry for everyone (great for me because I rarely get to have it) and the afternoon was, in the nicest possible way, a little like an episode of 30 something.  A group of really good friends of a certain age sharing a life changing event.  It was a really great privilege to be there (I was hanging on Clare's coat tails).

The afternoon reminded me of leaving some very good friends behind in London when we moved away.  Not as far as moving to New England but busy lives make it difficult to meet up.  I miss the get togethers, late night chats where we set the world to rights, real ale and songs at the Fox and Firkin (when they brewed their own beers) and O'Hagans sausages (when they had a shop in Greenwich).  In particular I miss my sisters (living in London and the US).

But the good news is everybody knows about Skype!  John will have a mac and a web cam and his friends back home have a similar setup.  I tried to encourage him to create a blog. I hope he has a go, it'll make fabulous reading.

My Sister in the states has finally installed Skype too   I love the internet!

Good luck John and Michelle, have a safe journey and get blogging
