An easy move from XDA to BlackBerry? - Nope!

Hi,

I have some friends that own a smallish Audio Visual, Video Conferencing company with some very large customers.  They employ a few engineers that travel around the country installing equipment at premises and conferences.  Up to now they've been using XDA's to sync mail and calendars and have struggled with them.   Sync'ing the calendar has been the biggest bugbear.

So after looking at my 7130 and doing their own research they approached a UK carrier:

"Can we synch our Calendars with Exchange over the air?" - "Yes" said the carrier
"Do we need any additional Software?" - "No" said the carrier
"Great can we have four Pearls then please" - "Of course!!" said the carrier

The carrier told a fib, a lie and a whopper.  They need a BES server to do what they need and it seems that the carrier (whose name has one letter and one numeral) doesn't have anyone who knows enough about it to advise them.  They are getting the runaround with customer services people offering a mixture of bad advice or advice they're not prepared to stand by.

They need a BES but unlike BES Express for Domino which is free and supplied with 10 free client access licenses (CAL's) the Exchange version is still free but ships with one free CAL.  The carrier now wants to charge them an extra £650+ vat for the additional CAL's.

As you can imagine they're feeling extremely disapointed.  What should have been an easy win for the Carrier (more handsets and voice and data orders to come) and for RIM another BES customer and advocate in some big companies is going sour.  That's a big shame.

Do you have any horror stories?
