Wii'ing all night & @DbCommand("Domino";"ViewPreviousPage")/@DbCommand("Domino";"ViewNextPage")

Clare collected our Wii console from the post office where it's been under effective house arrest for the last two days (long story) and as soon as I got home from work we broke it out and got it up and running.

Initially there seems so many pieces to assemble, power supply, sensor bar, controllers, various stands, scart connection to the TV...  Actually it's very straightforward and we were ready to play inside ten minutes.  Clare was extremely sceptical at first: "we don't need a games console the children will never play it".  Proof is in the pudding as they say so we set about playing Wii Sports Bowling.  The controllers are a bit chunky and complex for tiny hands and minds but we managed to have a reasonable stab at a game.  Clare, I think, has begun to warm to the Wii but I think it's still on probation   We tried Tennis next and apart from me hitting my daughter in the head with the controller as she suddenly jumped up from the sofa everyone seemed to like that too.  You need a lot of space to play (it can be a bit energentic).

I stayed up to play all of the Wii sport games and get it connected to my Wireless network.  That piece of the setup is very easy.  I discovered that my neighbors have got xbox's   Not that I should ever need to but you can read the news and get weather reports on your Wii....

I'm a dyed in the wool PC games person.  I like simple games where I get to blow stuff up or rpg's like Oblivion (not so simple).  That said I like the Wii.  It's a little more immersive (because of the controllers), it's a bit different.  It's also quite compact and bijou. BTW I heard someone mention that Sony are looking to license the controller idea from Nintendo.   Graphics are not state of the art but playability is right up there.

Can't quite recommend the Wii to you yet as it's still early days but the signs are good.

And a quick Domino aside...

I'm currently using two @Commands to help users navigate through views on the Web:  @DbCommand("Domino";"ViewPreviousPage") & @DbCommand("Domino";"ViewNextPage")

These provide links on the page that get the next & previous pages of documents in an embedded view on a $$Template form.  They seem useful though not without bugs.  The principal pain at the moment is that when I edit the $$Template form the next and previous links often stop working.  To fix I have to edit the $$Template document, and edit the hotspots that contain the @Commands.

If I switch the run list from Client to Web and back again (see image below) and then save the form. All is well again.

Is that a bug?

Have a good weekend & ttfn
Jason
