Fingers crossed for boots
We went on holiday to Wales recently and stayed on a farm and found a poorly ferrel kitten there suffering from cat flu and severe conjunctivitis. We took him on as a project during our stay hoping to make him better.
Twice daily eye cleaning, ointments and antibiotics and three trips to the vets. By the end of the week he was improving but still not well so we brought him home. He wouldn't purr or meow.
He's black with four white feet and we've called him "Boots" (we picked up another kitten at the same time she's called Dora). We think he might be about 6 weeks old. Slowly though he's got better and found his voice. His eye closed up though and we'd been hoping it was going to heal or at least remain stable.
Unfortunately yesterday his eye began to swell and we had to take him to the vet. Given the swelling she felt that she had no choice but to remove his eye. So he's being operated on today. The worry is, of course that he won't survive the anaesthetic because he so small.
Believe it or not I'm not such a big fan of cats but I do hope this little lad makes it he's already had such a rough time.
So even if it seems like a piece of shameless sentimentalism if you're reading this please send little boots a happy thought...
More news later (expecting a call from the vets around 5pm BST).

*** Quick Update ***
Boots is home, apparently there's a chance his eye can be saved by more ointments & tablets.....
Phew what a relief!

Nice one Jason. Hope Boots pulls through. Don't forget to post some pics.
Hi Grant, he's back and much improved. Fingers crossed he might keep the eye after all.
I'll post some pics tonight....

Lots of little prayers for Boots. Hope the new treatment works and he recovers to be a health little cat.
Hello Kitty,
I took it as a sign he's feeling better
I think he's going to be a smashing little cat
He clawed his way up my leg on his way to the food I was getting for him over the weekend. I was wearing shorts
I'll put some pictures of Boots and Dora up (an excuse to get a Flickr account) tonight...

Ohh, kitten pics to look forward too - great!
Our little girl cat, when she was a kitten had a habit of lauching herself at people's backs, with no warning, but with claws, and landing about halfway up and then clamdering up - claw-aided - to your shoulders! We got quite used to it and she has stopped now she is bigger, but some of our guests got quite a fright!
Guys I'm sorry I tried really hard to get some decent photos of Boots and Dora last night but my cameras just not up to much. Apparently Clare has some nice ones on her camera so I'll check them out tonight.
In the meantime here's a couple of rubbish ones:
and Dora
What lovely little people! Mmm, chicken and rice. That he eats of his own accord is probably one of the most positive things! We'll keep our fingers crossed for him. Let us know how he does. K
There's nothing wrong with his appetite! He'd all ready eaten his own tea plus seconds before having a go at the dogs food
We're taking him back to the vet 2mrw to have a quick look at his eye which looks like it's trying to heal closed again.
We've rescued a few cats in our time and boots reminds me of Alfie who we got from the Cats protection league he was tiny and desparately ill. He recently broke the record at our vets as the fattest cat she had ever seen!
Keep thinking kind thoughts!

More pics of Boots and Dora here.
Boots went to the vets today & she's pleased with him, which is great news.
